Red Chilli

Teja, Byadgi & Guntur by ASTA colour and heat

CBIL supplies Indian red chilli against the two variables that actually price the contract: ASTA colour value and Scoville heat. Teja S17 is the high-pungency workhorse at 75,000–90,000 SHU for buyers driving heat into sauces and seasoning; Byadgi (Kaddi and Dabbi) delivers exceptional colour at 60–80 ASTA with low heat, which is why oleoresin extractors and paprika-substitute buyers pay a premium for it; Guntur Sannam 334 sits in the middle as the volume grade for blending; and Wrinkle 273 serves powder and flake production. We supply whole with stem, stemless, crushed, flakes and powder to your mesh.

Every lot is Sortex colour-sorted, metal-detected and certified by SGS or Intertek for ASTA colour, Scoville heat, moisture, aflatoxin B1 and total aflatoxin, Sudan dye (absent) and pesticide residue, with steam-sterilised and ETO-free options for EU and US entry. Buyers include seasoning and snack manufacturers, sauce and condiment producers, oleoresin extractors, spice grinders and retail packers. Supply is arranged in 25kg jute or PP bags and cartons, container-load, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms — send your ASTA floor and heat band and we will match the variety to it.

Red Chilli — buyer questions

What is the difference between Teja and Byadgi chilli?

Teja S17 is a high-heat variety at roughly 75,000–90,000 SHU with moderate colour — you specify it when pungency drives the product. Byadgi is the opposite: very high ASTA colour (60–80) with low heat, which makes it the choice for colour-led applications and oleoresin extraction. They are not interchangeable, and Byadgi typically carries a significant premium.

Can you meet the EU aflatoxin limit on chilli?

Yes. We supply against the EU limits of 5 ppb aflatoxin B1 and 10 ppb total aflatoxin, certified by SGS or Intertek at load port. Chilli is a high-risk commodity for aflatoxin, so we source from lots pre-screened for it rather than testing after the fact.

Do you supply chilli powder or only whole chilli?

Both. We supply whole with stem, stemless, crushed, flakes and powder ground to your mesh specification. Powder and crushed forms are typically supplied steam-sterilised in lined cartons to protect colour and control microbiological load.
