Wheat

Milling, feed & durum wheat, flour and bran

Wheat is not one market but four, and they rarely compete for the same cargo. Milling wheat is bought on protein, test weight and Hagberg falling number for bread grists. Feed wheat is bought on energy and test weight for compound feed and ethanol, where the sprout damage that ruins baking value is irrelevant — which is why downgraded milling parcels become the best value in the feed market after a wet harvest. Durum is a different species entirely, milled into semolina for pasta and graded on hard vitreous kernel count, and its narrow growing area makes it far more volatile than bread wheat. Alongside the grain, CBIL brokers milled flour specified by ash and protein, and wheat bran and middlings for ruminant rations. Trade is on GAFTA contract forms with SGS or Intertek certification at load port, in bulk Handysize to Panamax parcels and in 25 and 50 kg bags container-load.
