CBIL brokers Indian cumin seed (jeera) from the Unjha market in Gujarat and Rajasthan growing belts, supplied in the purity grades international buyers contract against: 99% purity 1% foreign matter (99/1), 99/2, and the Singapore and Europe quality classifications that bundle purity with colour and volatile-oil expectations. Volatile oil — typically 2.5–4% — is the commercial marker for aroma strength and is the specification extractors and seasoning houses care about most. Material is machine-cleaned, Sortex colour-sorted, gravity-separated and metal-detected before bagging.

Every lot carries SGS or Intertek certification of purity, admixture, moisture, volatile oil, ash and pesticide residue, with steam-sterilised and ETO-free options for EU and US entry. India supplies the majority of world cumin, and crop timing (February–March arrivals) drives the annual price curve — we structure both spot and forward supply around it. Buyers include spice grinders and blenders, seasoning and snack manufacturers, oleoresin extractors and retail packers. Supply is arranged in 25kg and 50kg PP or jute bags, container-load, on FOB, CFR and CIF terms.

What does cumin 99/1 mean?

It is the standard purity notation: 99% pure seed with a maximum 1% foreign matter. 99/2 allows 2% foreign matter and prices slightly lower. Singapore and Europe quality are broader classifications that bundle purity with colour and volatile-oil expectations — tell us your destination and application and we will quote the right grade.

Why does cumin price move so much year to year?

India supplies the large majority of world cumin and the crop arrives in a narrow February–March window, so a weak crop transmits into price almost immediately with little buffer stock. If you have predictable annual volume, forward-contracting ahead of arrivals usually beats buying spot into a tight market.

Do you supply ETO-free cumin?

Yes. ETO-treated material cannot enter the EU, so we default to steam-sterilised or untreated cumin with pesticide-residue certification for European destinations. We can supply either treatment for other markets.
