Prilled Sulphur

Uniform 1–4 mm prills for bagged & blended use

Prilled sulphur is formed by dropping molten sulphur through a cooling medium so it solidifies as near-spherical prills, typically 1–4 mm and noticeably more uniform in size and shape than a granulated bead. That uniformity is the reason to buy it. A tight, round, consistent particle flows predictably through hoppers, augers and bagging lines, meters accurately in a volumetric feeder, and blends physically with urea, DAP and MOP prills of comparable size without segregating in the bag — exactly what a bulk-blend fertilizer plant needs and what an irregular crushed product cannot deliver. The chemistry is the standard recovered sheet: 99.8% minimum purity, moisture ≤ 0.5%, ash ≤ 0.05%, acidity as H₂SO₄ ≤ 0.01%, organic carbon ≤ 0.05%, and arsenic, selenium and tellurium each ≤ 1 ppm, in the usual bright yellow.

Where prilled sulphur gives ground is toughness. A prill is generally more friable than a well-formed granule, so it produces more fines through repeated grab handling, long conveyor runs and multi-port voyages — which is why the deep-sea bulk trade runs on granular while prilled tends to move bagged, in containers, or over shorter lanes into bagging and blending operations. Take prilled when the product is going into 25 kg or 50 kg distribution bags, into a bulk-blend NPK line where particle matching decides whether the blend segregates, into a chemical or rubber plant dosing by volume, or anywhere the end customer sees the product and uniform appearance is part of the sale. Take granular instead when it is a Panamax parcel across an ocean into an open stockpile.
